Projects - Pick By Light

Much time is wasted in warehouses having to pick items per customers' orders.
The system was developed and utilized in the cosmetics industry.
Hundreds of orders are picked each shift and workers get incentive payment for the amount of products they pick and the accuracy of their work.
The basic system is composed of 412 storing cells (originally dedicated for one product, but may accept several different products).
In front of each cell, a high-intensity LED (Light Emitting Diode) is mounted.
The worker shows the computer the pick-order and the computer lights up the LEDs in front of the relevant cells.
The tedious work of locating the correct cells/products is saved, as the worker has only one task: to follow the lights and pick the quantity dictated by the computer.
The process, as a whole, is controlled by the computer:
Non-relevant items are rejected
Quantities are being checked and the computer refuses to accept quantities beyond customer's order
Lack of items is reported to the computer and as a result a "Shortage Report" is being issued.
All activities involve a barcode reader, which the workers hold, and worke becomes quick and fluent.
The system is modular and can be increased to 864 cells and more, per customer's requirements.
